Surface Vocabulary
A translation system that maps one decision state into multiple surface expressions while preserving semantic consistency.
Core challenge
Without a shared vocabulary, each surface invents its own meaning, and trust fragments. Surface Vocabulary keeps the meaning stable while the interface form changes.
System behavior
The system defines semantic states first, then maps them to each surface's available interaction language. The token decides what must remain invariant across watch, phone, wall, and dashboard views.
UI evidence
Design decision
Surface adaptation is allowed only after the semantic state is named. This prevents a compact interface from weakening the trust signal.
Tradeoff
The vocabulary layer adds upfront taxonomy work. It pays off when new surfaces can reuse existing states instead of inventing new meanings.
Outcome
This project anchors brand and trust coherence across heterogeneous devices.
